The Pharmaceutical Industry in Bolivar County has a long-standing history in the community. Pharmaceutical and Medicine Manufacturing companies within the region produced $86.8 million in GDP.
Baxter International, for example, a major multinational health care company, opened their second U.S. manufacturing facility in Cleveland. Two years later, the company became the first U.S. company to make commercially available human plasma following its acquisition of Hyland Laboratories. Baxter recently invested more than $100 million in improvements, new jobs and additions to increase capacity at their facility. The Cleveland facility is now the company’s longest-operating plant and employs approximately 600.
